JOB DESCRIPTION

Care Workers and Home Carers play a crucial role in providing essential support and assistance to individuals who require care in their own homes. They work with a diverse range of clients, including the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and those with specific healthcare needs. Care Workers and Home Carers focus on enhancing the quality of life for clients by providing personalized and compassionate care.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal academic entry requirements. In most cases workers will be required to register with the appropriate statutory body which involves satisfying the registration criteria. This would normally include holding or working towards the appropriate qualification for the job. Entrants must typically be 18 years old and have experience of working in a care environment. Both Off and on-the-job training is available. A wide range of qualifications including NVQs/SVQs covering various aspects of care are available. Background checks including a DBS check are likely to be required.

TASKS

  • Assist clients with personal care tasks, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting, while respecting their dignity and promoting independence..
  • Support clients with medication management, ensuring adherence to prescribed schedules and administering medications as required..
  • Prepare nutritious meals based on clients' dietary requirements and preferences, considering any specific nutritional needs..
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe and comfortable living environment..
  • Help clients with mobility and transfers, using aids or equipment as necessary to ensure their safety..
  • Provide emotional support, companionship, and engage in meaningful conversations to reduce feelings of isolation..
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized care plans, collaborating with healthcare professionals and family members..
  • Monitor clients' health conditions, observe changes, and report concerns to relevant healthcare professionals..
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care provided, activities, and any relevant information, ensuring compliance with regulations..
  • Communicate effectively with clients, their families, and other healthcare professionals to provide updates and ensure a collaborative approach to care..
